We are the manufacturers of possible: Sparks Operations Tech. Hunter. Angler.
Joshua Dolheimer loves working with his hands.
As an Operations Maintenance Technician with a career spanning more than a decade working with a beverage retailing company, Joshua began working in the manufacturing industry as a warehouse associate for Dawn Foods where he was able to obtain certifications in welding before becoming a millwright for Industrial Service and Installation.
“I really enjoy working with my hands. I always have. I worked along the East Coast doing several different roles in operations and heavy industry, which opened a lot of doors into manufacturing, where I quickly became a maintenance mechanic and then technician. I was referred to BD from a colleague at the time. The more I learned about BD, the more I liked what it had to offer so I joined the organization more than a year ago and have never looked back,” shared Johsua.
Culture filled with pride, support, and empowerment
Joshua said that one of the best aspects of his role with BD is feeling empowered to really take charge of a situation when it comes to maintenance work. He appreciates that each machine can be unique and require a different care and maintenance regimen.
“Some machines may have similar components, but they may work differently and have different uses in production. The thing that gets me excited about my role is knowing I may walk into a new maintenance project that requires me to think about something in a new way, so I’m constantly in the machines, which I love,” he said. “Also, the culture at BD is very connected, supportive and the people have a lot of pride – and it shows in the work everyone does.”
Contributing to the Purpose
You can feel the sense of pride Joshua has for his role at BD when asked how he describes what he does to family and friends: “I tell them that I help a Med Tech company (BD) manufacture their products and solutions as efficiently as possible with their production machines, so they can deliver top notch products to the world and the end patient – I think it’s pretty powerful,” noted Joshua.
He calls out that to work for BD, some attributes to consider are keeping the bigger picture in mind, as well as keeping an eye on your professional goals so you can keep learning, developing and growing. “Be a lifelong learner, stay persistent, never give up and work hard – it will pay off.”
In his personal time, Joshua enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters, but you might also find him on the nearest river, lake or hunting area around Sparks as he loves to fish and crab, as well as hunt. “I consider myself a huge outdoors person – whenever I can break away to hunt, fish or crab, I am there!”
