Position Overview:

We are looking for a self-motivated Senior Control and Programming Technician to join the Maintenance and Engineering team of BD manufacturing plant in Mebane, NC. You will play a central role in maintaining and improving automation equipment to ensure reliable manufacturing equipment. This is a hands-on role, working to troubleshoot in real-time and continuously looking for improvement of equipment reliability. You will support production flow, quality assurance, and the safe operation of a high-volume automated manufacturing operation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work safely and comply with all applicable safety and quality procedures
  • Perform preventive and emergency maintenance on electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems. Replace or repair faulty components and recalibrate systems as needed.
  • Diagnose faults in control systems and machinery using diagnostic tools and software.
  • Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC programs (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens).
  • Configure and maintain HMI interfaces and SCADA systems.
  • Install and configure automated control systems including PLCs, HMIs, sensors, and actuators.
  • Commission new equipment and ensure proper integration with existing systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of programming changes, maintenance activities, and process settings changes.
  • Ensure all systems comply with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Work closely with engineering, production, quality, and maintenance teams to optimize equipment performance.
  • Train operators and technicians on system operation and basic troubleshooting.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Ladder Logic, Structured Text).
  • Experience with industrial automation systems (e.g., robotics, conveyors, CNC).
  • Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Modbus).
  • Experience with vision systems such as Cognex and Keynce.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently and  in teams.

Education & work experience requirements:

  • Associate degree or technical diploma in Electrical Engineering, Automation Technology, Mechatronics, or related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years in industrial automation or control systems role
  • Certifications in PLC programming or industrial automation (preferred).
