This role will master the Production Technology and Maintenance techniques being responsible for:• Loss (Breakdown, Waste, Speed), Investigation and Resolution.
• Development of Maintenance standards.
• Implementation of basic maintenance processes for the designated product lines.
• Building maintenance skills for the operators
• Execution of maintenance activities in the line (planned/ unplanned when available), applying relevant BD Excellence tools & methodology (TPM)
Ensures compliance with BD quality systems, policies, procedures and best practices, and all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures. Responsibilities
Responsibilities in a smaller, less complex manufacturing unit include but are not limited to:
Loss (Breakdown, Waste, Speed) Investigation and Resolution
- Attend Tier 1 and Production Analysis Board (PAB) meetings providing engineering status of line and agree resource deployment and timings to close losses.
- Promote and evaluate cost reduction, quality improvements and capacity expansion programs/strategies and as appropriate, determine their economic and technical feasibility.
- Resolve repeat loss issues using systematic problem-solving techniques to determine root cause.
- Support Shift Technicians in Investigation of losses (Breakdowns, Waste, Speed) to ensure countermeasures are effective.
- Coach Technicians and Operators in quality and effectiveness of problem-solving tools and robustness of countermeasures.
- Support all CI projects/validations as required to help improve equipment reliability.
Development of Maintenance standards
- Engage with Operators and Technicians to effectively use Daily Task Maintenance and Planned and Preventative Maintenance to increase OEE and safety performance.
- Provide details to improve Maintenance Standards and execution (Frequency, Breakdowns and Repairs) to Reliability Leader based on problem-solving outcomes and DTM/PPM activity.
- Propose and implement changes in plant processes and equipment to increase efficiency and improve overall cost positions.
- Work closely with Engineering and Manufacturing Management to develop and implement the business/technical strategy for assigned manufacturing area.
- Coordinate engineering activity with Maintenance/Manufacturing Technician personnel and Machine Shop Supervision.
Implementation of basic maintenance process and settings for the designated product line(s)
- Coordinate the activities of various Engineering Department functions to support the activities of other departments and Division Engineering Programs related to other manufacturing subsidiaries.
- Lead Maintenance activity for respective lines in conjunction with Preventative Maintenance Leader.
- Maintain critical equipment settings, standards and close loop on changes made.
Building maintenance skills for Technicians and Operators
- Provide Training and Coaching to Operators and Technicians on DTM/PPM Maintenance activities and standards.
- Assure good engineering practices are employed on all project and/or process assignments and associated equipment in accordance with GMP standards.
- Audit proposed new or modified equipment/processes for compliance with all short- and long-term production requirements.
- Coach associates and perform yearly job evaluations.
Execution of maintenance activities in the line (planned/unplanned when available)
- Apply sound leadership principles and provide functional supervision of other Engineers towards attainment of their assignments.
- Ensure all preventative maintenance activities are performed effectively, including opportunistic maintenance working with Preventative Maintenance Leader to plan same.
- Record maintenance details in full on the designated forms/SAP.
- Report and action any abnormalities observed during Daily Task Maintenance/Planned Preventative Maintenance to reduce losses.
- Record spares used during maintenance/unplanned breakdowns in line Maintenance requirements.
Other duties as required to support the needs of the business
- Responsible for addressing equipment breakdowns and handling critical issues promptly.
- Facilitate BD Excellence implementation (focusing on TPM component).
Deliverables
- Development of Maintenance standards for the designated manufacturing unit.
- Implementation of basic maintenance processes for the designated product lines.
- Building maintenance skills for the technicians and operators.
- Aid in all phases of Budget and Standards preparation.
- Manage Vendor design, coordination, checkout and acceptance of new manufacturing process machinery.
- Handle installation, debug, and validation activities for new production machinery.
- Aid Business Unit Manager in the justification of capital programs and associated requests for funding.
- Plan a capital strategy for 3–5 years to maintain asset integrity, meet demand, and uphold safety and quality.

Levels of Supervision: None, Small Team (1-~10), Medium Team (~10-20) or Large Team (>20)

Qualifications and requirements
Minimum Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent experience: Required
- BA/BS Degree Preferred – Industrial or Mechanical Engineering preferred
- In lieu of bachelor’s degree, 10 years’ technical or manufacturing experience required
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience leading and supervising engineering team in a manufacturing environment
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in project leading
Minimum Experience:
- 3 years’ experience with high-speed automated assembly and packaging equipment required
- Some PLC experience preferred but not essential.
