About us

The evolution of BD in Ireland is a story of strong leadership and continuous innovation. Since BD started production on Donore Road in 1964, thousands of local people have been employed and billions of syringes and medical devices have been produced. With three manufacturing sites in Drogheda, Dun Laoghaire and Enniscorthy, we employ 1200 people in highly skilled positions. The acquisition of GenCell Biosystems Ltd in Limerick and the creation of our R&D center of excellence propelled us into the R&D space too. And, since our Bard acquisition, the opportunities in Ireland have only grown, with a brand-new area joining our remit and putting Enniscorthy on our map for our people to explore. 

Our Sites

DROGHEDA

With more than 150 associates working in our large and established facility, BD Drogheda is where we work to support our Medical segment - from Diabetes Care to Medication Delivery Solutions. This manufacturing-focused plant plays host to more than 35 molds, creating components for pen needles, safety for pen needles, and PosiFlush. Not only is this site leading the way for batch control and continuity of products, but also for its commitment to future growth. LIMERICK

One of 4 Enterprise R&D hubs that service multiple units, RCI (Research Centre Ireland) represents a significant milestone for bringing us together as one BD. BD is separated into 3 business segments; BD Medical, BD Life Sciences and BD Interventional and RCI support business units in each of these segments. We integrate hardware, software, and technology services here to support our worldwide operations in a collaborative and consistent way. DUN LAOGHAIRE

In Dublin’s contemporary midst, Dun Laoghaire is where part of our BD Medical business sits. Here, we manufactured a variety of syringes until 1996, when the site diversified into the production of insulin injection pen needles, used in the treatment of diabetes. As the world’s largest pen needle manufacturing plant, we employ approximately 350 associates. As an associate here, you can work alongside experts to deliver world-class products for many. Dun Laoghaire is also home to the Irish commercial operations, with a field-based team working with our customers across the nation.

ENNISCORTHY

Since acquiring our Enniscorthy business, previously known as Clearstream, we have expanded our capabilities. Here, we design, develop, and manufacture innovative medical devices associated with peripheral artery disease, diabetes, surgical procedures, and oncology. With a wide array of products and technologies, it's a dynamic and exciting place to work in. Along with being located in the South East of the country, we are very close to spectacular beaches, rivers and mountains in Ireland, as well as the historic sites and castles.
